Gabriella Karefa-Johnson on Diversifying High Fashion, Styling Vogue Cover, Rethinking Beauty Standards, and More.

Gabriella Karefa-Johnson is the fashion stylist we all need in our lives. She is the first black woman to style a Vogue cover, and her light has shone long before that. Gabriella is the fashion director of Garage magazine, curating and styling spreads that always create some noise.

She tells stories through her styling, and focuses on diversifying representation in high fashion. I met Gabriella at a Prada dinner in Milan, she greeted me like we were old friends and we immediately started dishing stories…..luckily for you all! She does that here too.

We talk about breaking into an industry as a person who doesn’t meet the typical standard of fashion, navigating what it means to finally get hired for jobs when it seems more trendy to hire BIPOC. And of course, Gabriella’s fashion inspirations, and fashion aspirations.

I hope you loved this episode with Gabriella Karefa Johnson. You can continue following her journey on instagram at @Gabriellak_j.
