Rep: A Story About the Stories We Tell
In 1985, Back to The Future becomes a blockbuster hit. The movie’s villains? The Libyans.
In 1986 the U.S. conducts an airstrike on “The Libyans” in a failed attempt to kill then-dictator Muammar Gaddafi. An unconfirmed number of civilians are killed, instead identified as “collateral damage”. Among them, five family members of award-winning journalist and producer Noor Tagouri.
Almost 40 years later, Noor Tagouri investigates how misrepresentation in media affects our culture and society. Using Her great uncle’s archival footage of the coverage of the 1986 bombing as an entry point, Noor follows this thread outside Her own story and community to present a thoughtful examination of the concept of Objectivity, our relationship with Truth, and how they exist within the dynamic of Politics, Pop Culture, and Public Opinion.
